Mike’s Family

 

Mike and Dee both grew up in Lumberton but did not meet until they both had returned home to begin their professional careers. They were married on June 26, 1982.

When she graduated from Lumberton High School, Dee had earned a scholarship to Louisburg College, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. She also graduated summa cum laude from UNC-Pembroke.She worked for Southern National Bank and received the Clubwoman of the Year Award in the early 1980’s from the Lumberton Junior Woman’s Club. Because of her leadership and service in several community, civic and church activities, Dee was chosen for the Distinguished Service Award by the Heart of Robeson Jaycees.

An Eagle Scout and Senior Class President in high school, Joshua won the Pogue Scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated in 2001 as a journalism major with a minor in religious studies. He graduated in 2010 from the UNC School of Law, where he served as a class representative with the Student Bar Association and was a board member with the Environmental Law Project and Christian Legal Society. His wife Caroline, who is also a UNC graduate, doubled majored in journalism and political science. Both have participated in numerous mission trips overseas.

An Old Well Scholar at UNC, Stephen also received both the Robert Byrd Honors Scholarship and a National Beta Club Scholarship. He graduated “with distinction” in 2006 as a political science major with a minor in chemistry. He graduated from the UNC School of Law in May 2009. His team won top honors as the overall champions in campus-wide intramural sports for 2005-2006, and he was a student government representative for his class. Stephen is an attorney with Ward and Smith in Wilmington.

The McIntyres are active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lumberton. Josh, Caroline and Stephen have all participated in domestic and international mission trips to help the elderly, the needy and young children. They were leaders of the youth group, and regularly attended regional and national conferences and retreats. Dee and Mike have both served as church officers and as Sunday School teachers and have chaired various committees, as well as participated in studies and ministries offered by the church.
