Social Security is a contract between the American government and the American people, and Mike knows that preserving Social Security and Medicare for future generations is essential in order to protect the health and livelihood of our senior citizens.
Mike strongly opposes privatizing social security. All Americans need to be assured that the Social Security trust fund will be available for future generations of hard-working Americans.
Additionally, Mike believes that the annual Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is a small but important benefit increase for seniors, and for this reason, he is a co-sponsor of the Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers Act, H.R. 2365. The bill recognizes that the formula currently used to determine the COLA for Social Security beneficiaries is not reflective of senior citizens’ purchasing habits and needs.
